May 1997: This Intel Microprocessor Identification Utility is designed to identify the type of Intel microprocessor your PC contains. It is intended for use on systems which are running in real mode. This utility has been updated to detect the Pentium(R) II processor. It will also tell you if your Pentium processor has the floating point divide flaw. This is an English only version.

May 1997: This Intel Microprocessor Identification Utility is designed to identify the type of Intel microprocessor your PC contains. It is intended for use on systems which are running in real mode. It will also tell you whether or not your Pentium(R) processor has the floating point divide flaw.

If you are downloading this utility from Intel's web site, after doubleclicking on the file, save to a temp directory on your C: drive.

After saving the file, to run the Microprocessor Identification Utility, exit Windows*, OS/2* or Unix* to DOS.

1. At the DOS prompt, type cd temp
2. At the C:/Temp> prompt type CPUID
3. Respond Y to the following system query: Continue File extraction?
4. At the DOS prompt type CPUIDF.exe
5. The program will run and provide details on your processor.
6. Exit from DOS.

After the program runs, the identification of the microprocessor is displayed on screen. If the program identifies yours as a Pentium processor containing the floating point divide flaw, you can receive authorization for a replacement at any time during the life of your PC by calling Intel's Pentium Processor Support Hotline.

If the program displays the message that it is not running in real mode, then you should do the following:

For users who downloaded the Intel Microprocessor Identification Utility, you will need to format a system diskette. From Windows 3.1* or Windows'95*, use your file manager structure.

For DOS*:

1. Put a new diskette into Floppy drive A. The following steps will take you through the process of reformat a diskette. Any files you may have on this diskette will be lost though this reformatting process.
2. To format a system bootable floppy diskette, at the DOS prompt, type FORMAT A:/S (Make sure you are NOT in the C: drive when you reformat!)
3. At the DOS prompt type C: (to return to the C: drive) CD TEMP (or specific directory where you downloaded the utility)
4. To copy the utility to the floppy diskette in the floppy drive, at the DOS prompt type
   COPY CPUID.exe A:
5. Reboot your machine with the disk you just created in your A: drive
6. At the DOS prompt A:> type CPUID
7. Respond Y to the system query: Continue File extraction?
8. At the DOS prompt type CPUIDF.exe
9. After the programs runs and provides the message; Remove the floppy from the A drive and reboot your system.

For users with the Intel Microprocessor Identification Utility diskette:

1. Make sure the Intel Microprocessor Utility diskette is in Drive A and is not write protected.
2. At the DOS prompt, type: SYS A:
3. Wait for the DOS prompt to return.
4. Exit all applications.
5. With the diskette still in Drive A, reboot the system from the diskette. It will automatically run the CPUIDF program in real mode.
